I sit up in bed with a start and look out into the hall. I can hear shouts of pain and anger. A warden, his trousers and shirt torn to tatters, comes into view and throws a prisoner against my door frame. The warden stands behind the prisoner, his arm around the prisoner’s neck. The prisoner is struggling and shouting loudly. The warden slowly lifts an electric stun gun to the man’s soft neck and issues a shock that forces the prisoner’s body into ugly convulsions. As the convulsions continue, a thin smile creeps across the warden’s face, his lips forming into an expression of pleasure. My heart beats hard and fast in my chest.
