Are there drugs in prison?

NOTICE TO PRISONERS
Over recent months, there has been an increase in reports of the use of psychoactive substances (also referred to as Spice) and this has resulted in a number of prisoners and staff requiring medical treatment as a result of exposure to fumes from individuals taking psychoactive substances.
Under Health and Safety legislation, and to ensure the safety and security of residents and staff, where it is suspected that fumes from any psychoactive unknown substances are within an area, all prisoners will be secured within their cell and their will be no association or communal dining until it is deemed safe to do so.
The following measures will also be in place:
We would encourage friends and family to use the “Email a Prisoner Scheme”
Any item of mail that is suspected of being impregnated with an unknown substance will be placed in a production bag and passed to Police Scotland for investigation and potential destruction.
Due to intelligence regarding mail being used to introduce PS a photocopy of your mail may be provided to you with the original going to your property in a sealed envelope. This will be done on a random basis and you will be able to observe the process to ensure your mail is not read.
